On June 21, during the 1st phase of the 2019-2020 season regular games resumed after the COVID-19 pandemic, Guangzhou thrashed Bayi by 104:88 in Qingdao division. Three of our players delivered their career highs respectively: Marcus Hunt with 47pts and 12rebs, Chen Yingjun with 13asts, and Si Kun with 18pts. Guo Kai, who just recovered from his foot injury, also played a nice game, scoring 8pts with 5rebs and 3blks. The team will battle against Liaoning on June 23.

Hunt made a dramatic entrance in the 1st quarter by getting a step-back jumper to get the first two points for the team. Then, he slammed it home in the fast break and drew multiple fouls, scoring 12 points in and out. Guo Kai got back in the game after his foot injury and scored two by a jumper. Chen Yingjun displayed his court view in this quarter by delivering 4 assists. The game was tied at the end of the 1st quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, Guangzhou speeded up offensively as Chen Yingjun and Hunt dazzled from the outside. Defensively, Guangzhou pulled it all out with good rotation and co-defense, forcing the opponent to call timeout twice.
Yet, Guangzhou all fired up after the timeout, leading by 10. Though Bayi bounced back at the end of this quarter, Chen Yingjun and Hunt both slammed the door with steady shots and layups. Hunt got 14 points, while Chen had 9pts, 3rebs and 3asts. Guangzhou led by 10 in the 1st half.
Guangzhou still stayed focus in the 2nd half. With Hunt’s “AND ONE” and Si Kun’s three ball, the team led by 14. However, Guangzhou was bogged down since then and Bayi narrowed down the deficit. At the critical moment, Hunt stood out and stop the bleed. He scored in the paint, knocked down a three and made a block shot to give Guangzhou a 7-point lead.
In the 4th quarter, Hunt, Chen Yingjun and Si Kun secured the lead for the team. Hunt got 9pts and 3rebs this quarter, nailing down a big three. Chen and Si scored 8 respectively. Finally, Guangzhou got its first win in the regular games resumed after the pandemic.
