Built in 1984, Tianhe Sports Center is located in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, where the CBD also lies in. This multi-functional stadium sits next to Guangzhou East Railway Station and faces the CITIC Plaza, covering a total area of 520,000 sq.m with 7,999 seats.
Tianhe Sports Center is the first of its kind in China to simultaneously have outdoor sports field, indoor stadium and natatorium. Ever since its founding, there has been 6 sports areas built, including tennis school, baseball field, basketball city, bowling alley, gateball court and Asian Games Sports Cultural Center. Moreover, citizens can also enjoy more than 20 kinds outdoor sports facilities like the workout path (the first in China) and the kids’ ping-pong paradise (the first in China), which plays a key role in nationwide fitness, sports industry as well as sports cultural development.
In 2016, Loong Lions Basketball Club moved its home arena from Foshan to Tianhe Sports Stadium, where Team Guangzhou, Times China will play their home games there.
On April 23, 2019, Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center and Loong Lions Basketball Club finished the hand-over ceremony of Tianhe Sports Stadium. Starting from May 1, Loong Lions Basketball Club will officially kick off its operation on Tianhe Sports Stadium, making itself the only club in CBA to directly manage the home arena.
